Postcard from Oliva

We’re at Oliva on the Costa Blanca; strictly speaking, we’re camped at Oliva Playa by the miles-long beach which stretches from Denia to Gandia. The beach area is connected to the town proper, a mile inland, by a broad avenue and a cycle track.

We’re at Kikopark, where our pitch (ACSI discount 18€) is just behind the dune that separates the site from the beach. We had planned to stop at Javea but then had word that our usual campsite was full. ‘Deleted User’ tipped us off that Kiko had vacancies so here we are again, nine years after our last visit (They still have our details in their computer!)

When we arrived the sun was shining and it was 20C in the shade. Straight into crocs and shorts and onto the beach. The sunny weather lasted until Sunday afternoon, but not until after our chums from Javea, Mick and Muriel, drove up from Javea to see us. It’s been a bit cloudy since with the temperature getting down to 14C. We’re hunkering down in the evening with our boxed set of ‘Breaking Bad’.

The site has a small shop, but the nearest supermarkets are just a mile away at Oliva. Market day is Friday so we cycled into town to soak up the bizz. The centre of modern Oliva is not unattractive despite the apartment blocks and the N332 passing through. The old Moorish/ Valencian town on the hill is well worth a visit with a signposted walk starting near the tourist office.

Sun’s just peaked out from behind the cloudsHappy

Hi Chas & Cath, glad to see you have resumed your postcards, I have been checking for them daily since you crossed the channel. I really enjoy reading them and following your travels with envy, it shall be May before we arrive in Spain. We have visited Oliva
before, quite some years ago now and stayed at Oliva Nova golf complex. I remember it well because it was our first holiday in years where we had no house hunting to do as we had already decided on Los Alcazares. I remember the long beaches and watching the
kite surfers for hours. Our Spanish neighbour used to drive to Oliva each morning to go for a swim with the help of the disabled medic assistants that were there. I know what you mean about the town though. Have a good birthday Chas, it must be due around
    now. Regards, Roy

El Berro I guess?. Have you seen the small site just to the east of Murcia city, I think it is called camping Huerta, on the edge of the river and easy access to the city along the river by bike. I can't seem to find a web site for it but I have some papers
somewhere, small, clean and handy for the city. Regards, Roy

Right on Roy, We left Oliva yesterday as the weather looked good for travelling. We stopped overnight at Marjal Costa Blanca: not our kind of site!

Now on pitch 26 at El Berro and the sun has been shining all afternoon. :-)

We've heard of Camper Park Huerta de Murcia but don't know if it has a website.
