We have just returned from a very pleasant stay at the Putts Corner site near Sidmouth. We had been to this site several times in our caravan, but had not been in the last 4 years since getting our motorhome and becoming "more mobile". We were not disappointed with the ambience of the site, beautiful landscaping with freshly budding trees, bluebells in the woods, and generally very quiet except for some occassional road noise which ended before "lights out". The wild life was a pleasure to watch, rabbits, different species of birds, etc., a truly rural site and ideal for a relaxing stay. The hourly bus service to Sidmouth ( a favourite of ours) and Exeter was an additional bonus as it saved driving, parking charges, etc., and it was an ideal opportunity to chat to fellow caravaners from the site who were doing the same thing. The wardens, as would be expected, were of the usual high standard, chatty and helpful. However, the wardens I feel are operating under difficult circumstances. The toilet blocks are well past their sell by date, peeling paint, hanging hooks in the showers/toilets missing or hanging off(not the wardens fault as there were several holes where they had tried refixing on previous occassions). Perhaps we have been lucky in choosing our sites in the past few years all of which are of an excellent standard. So when are the club going to renovate these very tired facilities, it would make the site much more attractive and user friendly. On the negative side, perhaps this would attract more members and it we would be unable to get a pitch!!! Finally, you must visit the Hare & Hounds just a short walk away through the woods. The Sunday carvery was as usual of an excellent standard (and a lot of it). The desserts were to die for. Don't forget to pick up your voucher from reception for a small discount off your meal.
