Hi everyone

we tow our coachman with a Volvo V70 2.0diesel. last week i ran out of diesel because i relied on the dash board range figure which said 20miles to empty.I trudged to a filing station with a can and duly poured it in the tank. after 15 minutes cranking the engine she would not start and the battery was failing. i called greenflag who came within 40 minutes and their man tried but was not able to get it started. he recovered me to my home and the next day set about sorting it. my pal is an ex-AA patrol so i called him, he said the diesel filter was on the left of the engine bay and i should remove the top and fill it with fuel and then it should start.

No filter was visible so i looked on the internet and found that the filter was under the car, accessed by removing a wheel. this is getting silly i thought so i returned to the internet and found that i needed a small rubber hand primer pump to suck the fuel from the tank to the engine, after about 15mins it came through and the car started.two points come from this saga, 1 never rely on the dash board range. 2 why don't greenflag carry a small electric pump to suck fuel the tank? surely alot of their call outs involve running out of fuel.

happy caravanning

And point 3: never allow your self to have a limited amount of fuel in your tank, just in case of points 1 & 2..
