An expensive Italian pizza!
Some years ago we visited Camping Barco Reale, in Italy. One evening we decided we would visit the restaurant on site for a pizza. The meal was very good and the time came to pay. Now, I was always good with French Francs and with the German Deutchemark, but if I remember rightly it was our first visit to Italy so my wife 'held the purse'. We hadn't really got much of a clue with Lire. I asked my wife to leave a small tip. When we got back to the caravan and we started to work out the money, we relised we had left about £15 tip. Now, for us that would be quite a lot to leave these days, but over ten years ago, the tip would have been worth a lot more. Well, there was little we could have done about it, we just had to accept the error.
A couple of days later we went back to the restaurant. Well, the welcome we received was something else. The waiters were falling over themselves to make us feel at home (LOL) - word must have got around about the tip we left. Anyway we came to the end of the meal and had the bill. How disappointed they must have felt when they realised that the money we left this time just covered the cost of the meal. We left rapidly and decided, perhaps we wouldn't visit the restaurant again! LOL.
David (P>S> the date is only a guess, I'm afraid)

I well remember a similar situation during our first trip to France, many moons ago. We were having a trip out for dinner and as a wine lover, I notice a Chateau Petrus on the wine list at a good price, so decided to give it a try. After much reverence it
was decanted and we thoroughly enjoyed it and the food.I then had to keep a perfectly straight face in front of my (late) wife when the bill arrived, with the wine at FF27,500 a bottle, a mere £275.00 in those days. Muggins had got the decimal point in the wrong place!!
