Corelle crockery
Well we saw the thread on CT about Corelle, so we went to see the Corelle crockery at the Spring Caravan Show at the NEC. Very crowded stand, very expensive I thought but very nice and good selection of designs. We like many have had a Melamine set in the van which has done us well, but with a new van my OH fancied new crockery. We certainly thought it was good quality, felt nice and was reasonably light and liked the demonstration they gave to show how tough it was. So as we had not bought anything else at the show we decided to go for a 16 piece set as the mugs were ordinary pottery and we have enough of those already we got 6 dinner plates, 6 side plates and 6 bowls at £47 20% off but still very expensive. Well, back to the van to try them out! Very very impressed and just as we use real glass glasses they look and feel right and it is nice to be able to warm them up and use them in the oven and microwave. So as long as they don't chip or break we will be very happy.

We have a set of both... we bought the Corelle set for the caravan and the IKEA stuff for home. Both are good, but we have a tiled floor in the kitchen at home, and over a period of time, have dropped and broken some of the IKEA set. Thery are not as good as the 'real' Corelle, but are still really good value. I guess the Corelle may well have broken had we had them at home.
I personally prefer the look of, and quality of the Corelle, but the IKEA set were cheap and easily replaceable... you can buy individual items, whereas (from what I can remember) the Corelle come as a set.... so as far as I'm concerned it's a case of swings and roundabouts....

We have the stuff from Ikea in the caravan, still all intact after several years. Ours is plain white, but sometimes they have it in other colours too, DD has some dessert plates in pale blue and some turquoise, as well as the white. Think they are about 50p per plate. We retired most of the old melamine ones, just carry about 6 of them in useful shapes that are good for salads and serving dishes.

Years ago we were speaking to the owner of a caravan dealership. He was at the NEC one year and had some Corelle crockery, fairly new on the market. He was giving various accessories as "freebies" with caravan sales. He said he wanted to show a sceptic how unbreakable they were so threw a plate on the floor, where it promptly smashed to pieces.
He only did it the once and slightly amended his sales pitch afterwards.😁

In both our caravans and motorhomes we always used Melamine plates and dishes as that is not only lightweight but almost unbreakable. Over times it does tend to get scratched so probably needs replacing on a fairly regular basis.
