Having started the day at the lovely Catrine House CL near Mauchline, after a very blustery night, the morning started with me sitting by the river Ayr. I then moved further north towards the little town of Beith and a CL called Townend of Shutterflats, it’s a great little CL that I've pitched up in, very quiet which suits me fine.

The weather has been varied, it’s snowing as I type, earlier the sun was shining and we also had sleet and gales, so all the seasons in one day! Of course I’m lucky I’ve got the warmth and protection of my Bailey Orion to slip into at any time. However even luckier for me on my wildlife tour, just down the road is a place called Hessilhead Wildlife Rescue Trust that is run by Caravan Club members, husband and wife ,Andy and Gay Anderson.  They are extraordinary people who I first met 16 years ago when they were hand rearing an orphaned otter cub called Flo. I’ve seen them once or twice since then but not been back to Hessilhead until today, and it was a real journey down memory lane. A lot had changed; new buildings and a new hospital wing but essentially the core was the same, two very caring people and their team who look after wild creatures that have fallen on hard times.

A number of different creatures were there today, and when I say a number, that included 76 hedgehogs, I didn’t get to say hello to them all! A happy couple of grey seals that were down on their luck, one which was caught in a fishing net and the other that was underweight, both looking great now with only another 10 kilos to gain before release. Two of the foxes, Fergus and Waggy, are residents that have decided to stay around rather than go back into the wild. Fergus in particular is a wonderful fox, very gentle and I had the privilege of feeding him from the hand today.

After arriving back at the van at the CL the first thing I did was to have a nice warm cuppa, I since popped into Beith for some supplies and am now relaxing in the warmth. We will see what tomorrow brings.
