After leaving Moreton in marsh site in our discovery 3 towing a twin axle bailey caravan all went well,we had been traveling some time on the motorways at between 55 and 60 mph, when we got to the split for m6 toll etc.a dash warning came up saying ENGINE SYSTEM FAULT ,AND THE ENGINE WENT INTO LIMP HOME MODE,i had enough speed and  empty lanes to my left and went onto the hard sholder and swiched of the engine and restarted it,dash warning had gone and unit was back on form. After 10 miles it happened again and i stopped and did the same things as last time and off we went again,i then got of the motorway and all was fine as i was going slower. The next day the land rover went into my local dealer who spent several days and £170 going over the faut codes etc.with involvment from land rover etc.they could not find a problem and said they could not reproduce the fault on test,i confirmed that they would have to drive on a motorway for several miles towing 1.5 tonnes. They said it could have been one of those things. As i will not be towing again untill  the 2013 season i am concerned the fault may still be there. As any one else had a problem like this.

We had a similar problem with our car last year heading down to Dover and the Ferry (not towing & petrol engine). The light came on and we limped a bit then went of again. We reached St Omer for an overnight stop and next day we travelled 300 miles to Beaune
without a problem. However, after a stop for Fuel at Intermarche, the light came on again, flashed and then the engine stopped with a smell of burning! One of the coils had burnt out and was replaced by a local garage. We then had a further two weeks of motoring
without a problem. We made the 800 mile journey home, but the light came back on a week later!! We had damaged the Lamda sensor by driving with a dicky coil - an expensive bit of kit to replace. If you're driving a diesel, all of this is irrelevant of courseSmile

I did not say my discovery is a 2.7 diesel auto.

RLG, You'd get a more focussed response to your query, if you were to copy the text to the Discussions- Towcars section. Best of luck with the 'problem' though!

We had a similar experience towing with a Freelander, we lost power towing through the Lakes and SW Scotland. We talked to Landrover and limped home after the holiday. We had all the checks done too, nothing was found and we had no further problems. As Chasncath
have said try putting this in the CT towcar section for further help.Smile

Yes we had the same problem with our new Freelander in October also on the M6.

We limped home and landrover recovery came out and after attaching the laptop told me it was an ongoing fault on the new engines on the fuel differential pressure switch, he downloaded the updated software (2 mins) and it hasn't done it again.

We had the same on our 2.5 Diesel automatic Series 2 Discovery - It had many trips in to the dealer who could never get it to reproduce the fault - they ended up keeping it for 3 weeks and changed various pieces - cost me over £1000!  Needless to say I have
now got rid of it.  Never did find out what the problem was.  Also had problems with the automatic selector and was told how to re-set that.  Park up, switch engine off.  With selector in DRIVE, push lever to top, down to bottom, back to top, back to bottom,
back to top, then to Neutral.  Re-start engine, and should be re-set.  A pain, but again, had to have a new selector fitted (under guarantee thankfully).  My mechanic said they are brilliant cars, but VERY VERY costly as parts are usually OEM only - even my
refurbished ABS joint was around £900 - new was £2000!  eeek!  Now tow with a Volvo V70 2.5T Auto - excellent, and tows like a dream!
