Can anyone help? Glossop Caravans after sales issues

We are at our wits end having bought a brand new  Swift Charisma 545 from Glossop Caravans in August 11 and after our first weekend away discovered 7 snags including a serious design fault.  It took from then till January 12 for a solution to the design fault to be created and the van booked in for this and the other faults corrected.

On collection of the van we found one of the faults not corrected and were offered a mobile fitter to come to us, which they later refuted.  In March, our next trip out we found more than a dozen new faults  including some with the floor and 3 of the original faults not corrected.

It took a further 4 months for parts to arrive and we finally got the van to their workshop in October, travelling to which the wiring harness dropped off the bottom of the A frame, wearing it all away.

Last week they rang to say Swift wouldn’t honour the warranty as we hadn’t yet had it serviced.

Can anyone suggest a next move?

Check the Internet and swift forums .One colleague of mine had mega trouble with his swift which the dealer was dragging his heels over getting it repaired, his search of the web  took him to a forum  which was seen by swift staff who offered help.

I must say about  this dealer , I visited the site to lookat purchasing a new caravan  and while looking around saw a  unit which had major issues with the sink unit coming away from the wall !!!!! ( it was not a new caravan )The sales man showed little
interest in my concerns. We stepped away from this site after this encounter.

Guess Swift told you it should have been picked up on the PDi ...Well that's another can of worms.  Over 20yrs of caravanning and had more than a few new vans NEVER. Have  I had a  fault free caravan  and think the PDI is just a way of adding extra cost
to the purchase. They are not worth a thing

we bought a sterling eccles jewel from frys in driffield made by the same company it is now 4 years old and our first trip my wife used the shower and the water came out from the door , then when it came to our october run we also found mildew at the side
of the fridge. We reported this to our dealer who said when you bring it in for service we will get it done under warranty it took swift 3 months of umming and arring to do the shower which was due to not being fitted properly and they would not even look
at th fridge, every year we have had something go wrong, but keep at them do not let it drop . I must say though I only live 18 miles from where they are made in hull and the dealer is only 20 so was surprised by the length of time it took . all i can say
if you get no joy see what citizens advice can do if nothing then go the consumer service

Glossop Caravans have appeared on this forum a few times. As they are part of the NCC Approved Workshops scheme and there are only 3 surveys completed for them (hence 60% rating) it may well be useful to fill in a report.

your story reminds me of when we bought a bessacar E495 motorhome, we bought it brand new from barrons at chorley and expected no problems what so ever. We collected it on the friday and was going on holiday to cornwall on the saturday. Saturday came and
we found we had a problem with the control panel, all the electrics wouldnt work , we telephoned the service dept and they said to disconnect the panel and reconnect it and its should come back on which it did. We started off on our jouney and whilst we were
travelling down the motorway i decided to go in the back of the van for something and on returning back to my seat nearly fell through the floor. the panel under the carpet in the dining area had not been screwed down and it had travelled under the carpet
whilst driving. Once we had arrived on holiday and started using the heating, cooking the panel went again all electrics off again the step wouldnt come up and my husband had to unscrew parts of it and tie it up so we could start the engine. when returning
home driving we then realized that every time we went round a corner water started pouring out of the speakers in the roof and this was condensation . on returning home the arguments we had to have jobs done was unbelieveable . in the end we had two panels
for the electrics, the van had to go back to swift for the roof of the over head bed to come off and had to be all relined for more insulation to help with condensation. this still didnt work and we found more and more was going wrong with the van . the dealers
were just not interested and would say anything to fob you off. we were disgusted saying it was a brand new van. i think they are very good when buying and cant do enough for you but once they have your money they dont want to know. we decided that we had
the van for two and half years and still problems that before the warranty run out we would trade it in and we bought another van and have been very happy since NO PROBLEMS.
