Last year on returning from a lovely two week holiday in France to the port of Rosscoff we were put at the end of the queue to wait before boarding our ferry, whilst waiting I was making some last minuet checks at the back of our caravan. Another car and caravan was directed to the lane behind us, when I experienced a very near miss by a trailing caravan. I franticly shouted and banged on the side of their caravan to get them to stop and it came to a halt just millimetres away from the corner of our caravan. All the time that I was trying to get the other drivers attention I had noted that not once did this driver make mirror checks in his outside mirror and was unaware that his caravan was about to hit ours, this could of spoilt the end of what was a great holiday due to another driver not observing his mirrors and not knowing where his caravan was at the point of manoeuvre.
This year again returning from a longer holiday in France we were in exactly the same situation on the end of a queue at Rosscoff only this time I was sitting in out brand new motor home. Yet again cars pulling caravans were being directed behind us, so I was eagerly watching from my own near side mirror as I remembered the year before. Our queue was on the move at the front and caravans were still being directed behind us, I am convinced that if I had not moved off when I had we in no doubt would of been hit by a caravan cutting the corner behind us.
I am asking other drivers either pulling or solo to observe at all times how close you are to other vehicles, if you are heading abroad or heading home and your being directed into ferry lanes please remember that there is no rush trying to board a ferry we are all going in the same direction and if your in the ferry port you are unlikely to be left behind. Unlike one year when I was accused of queue jumping by another driver when our lane was moving faster in a ferry port, but that is another story.

Can be just as bad getting off the ferry. I had an idiot bending down next to my A frame, sorting out a bag, where I could not see him. As I started to pull away somebody shouted at me to stop and this head sudenly popped up shout abuse at me. His mate calmed
him down and I shook for ages.0 -
Standing or passing over the caravan A frame has happened a lot to us over the years and is very dangeous, its a shame ferry companies do not highlight this to non caravaning passagers. Caravan and Motorhome owners you would hope would know best!
