Some time ago we were on our way to Rowntree Park CC site in York, we had stayed there many times in the past so thought it no problem finding our way to the site. Well on our way into York centre I must have taken a wrong turning because we were in the middle of York but on the wrong side of the river for the site, easy you may say just cross the river and your there, not so easy in the middle of the city with a caravan in tow. So I stopped in a taxi rank and asked a taxi driver for directions, no problem he said and told me the way to go, everything went fine untill we turned into a oneway street and saw a very low and narrow arch through the city walls in front of us unable to turn around we had to edge our way through with about three inches to spare each side. We made it to Rowntree Park set everything up and both had a very stiff drink.

York can be fun! On leaving the site, turn left out onto Terry Avenue and out via Clementhorpe. If you follow the riverside there is a low bridge with a steel girder hanging under it to discourage higher vehicles. I did see a 'van going under once - only
    just!
