Postcard from Cres #2

The clouds have cleared from Cres, and we’re seeking shade from the sun again. Daytime temperatures are in the mid-twenties and the crystal-clear sea has regained a few of the degrees lost in last week’s storm.

We’re passing our time with morning cycle rides along the shore to Cres harbour where we have a coffee and watch the world (mainly German and Austrian) go by and too look at the boats. While the weather holds, we sit by the beach in the afternoon, finishing the day with a swim.

Yesterday, we went on a minibus tour to local points of interest. We were the only customers, so ‘Ivan’ took us in his own car and we had exclusive benefit of his knowledge of the area and its history. We went to Orlec to see the cliffs where the griffins nest; to Vrana to see the vast fresh water lake, ‘Vranska jèzero’; to Lubenice to visit the village and to peer down the 398 metre cliff to the beach below; and to Valun, because it’s an attractive small fishing village.

We’re the only ‘Brits’ here at Camping Kovačine as far as we can see; however, we haven’t checked out the nudist section!

Our next stop will be on the neighbouring island of Krk. Meanwhile, we hope you will like to share some more photos.

Wish we were there!! We love Croatia and its islands. Spent some time on Krk this summer on Jezevac Camp site, parked adjacent to the beach, but maybe you are going further south on the 'island'. BTW I am sure you know that the fee for crossing the bridge
to the island is one way only - no toll on the return to mainland direction. We find that most of the sites down the coast, and particularly on the islands, we are often the only Brits - what is it about the beautiful country that stops Brits from attempting
to go there? More of your travels please.

We're heading for Krk and Autocamp Jezevac on Sunday, GeePee. We hope to get a pitch like yours next to the sea. It's quite expensive at Jezevac compared to
Kovačine, but as you know, it's quite something to be camped just a few feet away from the water.

As we will have been at Cres for 18 nights, the campsite refunds our ferry fare to Cres and the ferry to Krk. That and CCI discount make a big difference.

Come on down you Brits - we need reinforcements

From the beachside with our 'van on a front pitch,  we could wake in the morning to find the virtually tide-less Adriatic only two metres from our rear window. What a picture to wake up to!  Hope you are lucky enough to find a similar place.

PS Would have liked to attach a picture, but it seems I cannot do so in responses. There is no option here.

Our stay at Camping Kovačine for worked out at £10.50 per night. We had the cost of both ferries deducted (stay 18 nights), 10% CCI discount, a mixture of low and medium season rates and 14 nights for the price of 12.

We're now at Njivice, on the island of Krk, for a couple of nights to meet friends before going to Krk itself. The campsite here is an ACSI 16€ site.

Sorry Brue that we didn't catch your post. Mr brue is correct - they're vultures but they only show themselves if you have a dead sheep to offer them. We hadn't, so we didn't see any. Sorry GeePee but your photo didn't work. I think you have to paste your
photo into an online doc first.

Should I have some link to my 'postcards' that lets me know someone has posted a reply?
