We had another wonderful holiday in France this year. Once again we stayed at Bois Soleil at St. Georges de Didonne near Royan.  It is a lovely friendly site right next to a beautiful beach (with stunning sunsets when the weather is right) with a swimming  pool and good facilities.  We meet up with friends each year and have a wonderfully sociable time.  The weather wasn't as good as usual  with year but it didn't seem to matter when chatting with friends with a glass of wine!  We stayed at the municiple site at La Fleche to break up the journey both ways and would thorougly recommend that site as well.  Lovely views over the river towards the town which is a short walk away.  We keep meaning to stay for longer than two nights as it is a lovely area.  The only downside was the Hautes Coutures site at Caen.  The access to the pitches is dreadful.  For some reason they have high kerbs that you have to negotiate the caravan over - we broke our jockey wheel this year - and most are on a steep slope as well so we won't be staying there again.  This winters project is to work out a different crossing and route so that we can avoid it.  We are counting the days until our next visit.

Hi milliehull - France is brilliant as a caravanning destination and we too had a great holiday this year - went down to the Lot region. We have stayed near Caen on a site advertised in the back of the Club mag called Camping Le Puit 25
miles SW from Caen. www.lepuits.com well worth a look! We have driven their from the channel ferries 260 m from Dunkirk.

like you my hubby and I stayed at Lebois Soleil a few years ago and enjoyed the wonderful sunsets over the beach, sadly I lost my purse after about a week or so there and it tainted our holiday, we decided to move up to our favourite site in the Loire valley
area, we then went up to La Fleche wher we have friends who own a house there, we are familiar with the site there ang agree it is a lovely area to spend longer than a few days in. Our in-out of France sees us sailing in to Ouistreham and staying at Les Pommieres,
a stones throw from the docks, it is not the best of sites re facilities but after visiting Le Haute Couture we prefer it, you can walk into town along the canal bank, we normally only stay overnight in and out of France but did stay for 2 days once so we
    could enjoy the area, lovely.
