Lots to see and do when at Ferry Meadows

I must admit I started using Ferry Meadows CC site as a stopover on the way to and from places further afield, as I live in that bit of land that sticks out into the North Sea - East Anglia.

However, I soon found that it can be a good base for a longer stay- there are so many interesting places to visit.

Peterborough itself is well worth visiting, and if you choose the dates for your stay at FM you can take a ride straight into the city on the Nene Valley Railway, often on a steam train. If you like trains, you can visit the NVR collection and museum too.

Wisbech is very interesting- there is Peckover House, a super National Trust property, Olivia Hill's birthplace museum (one of the founders of the NT), the Clarkson memorial (anti slavery campaigner), Wisbech Castle ( Georgian mansion), Elgoods Brewery, The Crescent (amazing townhouses), and even the Fenland Aircraft Museum!

If you go up the A1, then there is Burghley House (Historic Houses Association), Woolsthorpe Manor (Isaac Newton's birthplace) and Belton House (both National Trust).

If you go west, you can visit Lyveden New Bield (NT), Kirby Hall (EH), Lyddington Bede House (EH), Geddington Eleanor Cross (EH), Rushton Triangular Lodge (EH), Fotheringhay church...

In short, there is so much to see and do!  Give it a try... during the high season, FM orders newspapers for you, there is a fish and chip van on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and even an ice cream van. What more could you want? Smile
