My First Brand New Caravan
I have had a camper trailer for the past 10 years or so and have spent some great holidays and week end breaks up and down the country. My friends who have caravans have tried to convince me to buy a caravan over the years, but I always argued about the flexibilityy and ease of towing my camper trailer (apart from when it rains and having to dry it out later and no winter holidays).
Well last year we considered buying a caravan and went to the lawns caravan show near Hull with our caravanning friends and looked at the Elddis 372 and the 462 and me being a bit cautious about the size and weight of the 462 put a deposit down on a brand new Elddis 372 van to be ready for December.
Now here comes the disaster bit, we had bought this caravan through Discover Leisure near york, they took my beloved camper trailer as part exchange (£2500) plus my original deposit of £500, and told me when I get back from holiday my new caravan would be ready for me to collect, FANTASTIC we had done it and looked forward to the day. When I got back from holiday I contacted discover leisure to find out that they had gone into liquidation, HORROR, NIGHTMARE, I could not believe it and I was told by the administrators that they had sold my camper trailer and would not get it back, also could not get my deposit back and elddis had not released the caravan I was an unsecured creditor! I WAS LEFT WITH NOTHING, NOTHING AT ALL camping days over finished forever been robbed thank you the caravan industry.
Well here comes the good news. A competitor rang me up and some how new about my predicament and offered to help me get my caravan for me. Instead of the £13500 dealer price they would do it for £12500 and hope some day I would get something back from Discover Leisure. We went up to do the deal and having seen the 462 for a second time realized this was the better van for us and they could do it for £13750 so we agreed the deal. A week before I was due to pick the van up a friend of mine saw the same Elddis 462 at another dealer for £12000 I rang them told the about my predicament and they would let me have the van for £11000 so now I have my new van OK I lost £3000 but if I had bought the 462 from a dealer that did not go bust I would have paid £14495 plus delivery of £500. So it all turned out for the better in the end If discover would'nt have gone bust I would be excchanging the 372 for the 462 and loosing money.
I am delighted with my new caravan it is a dream to tow I should have done it years ago, my friends were right. Just spent a couple of weekends in this very cold and snowy weather FANTASTIC can't wait for summer.
