A wet weekend in the Lakes!
Just back from a weekend stay at Park coppice in Coniston. To say it was wet was a bit of an understatement!
We were there for me to take part in the Great North Swim in Windermere on Saturday (more about that later!). On arrival on Friday it was torrential rain - really torrential. Luckily we know the site and managed to find a pitch in the quiet secluded area we like. Problem - it was raining so hard I couldnt see out the car windows to reverse - or to see my wife who (bless her) was outside guiding me. Car windows wound down - caravan pitched - inside of car soaking wet. Electrics/arial/water/toilet all done - me n her totally soaked - thank goodness for waterproof trousers.
Our "new" (for us) van came into its own and the rear washroom became a drying room - and remained that way for most of the weekend. It poured. We watched the flooding of Cumbria on the TV - and watched the moat start to surround out 'van - but its a well drained site on a hill - so no worry of flooding here.
And then they cancelled the Great North Swim - at least for Saturday swimmers - I was gutted. My plan to have my own Olympics and do all five swims this year was over. Mr Grumpy became Mr V Grumpy.
And it rained, and rained, and blew a gale, and rained. The waterproofs were on and off too many times! Mr V Grumpy remained.
BUT - The lakes is still beautiful even in rain. The Bacon and Sauagage baps in the Bluebird cafe are wonderful - and the scenery from the cafe is amazing - even if Coniston was in flood. The Black Bull beer is excellent. Park Coppice is great - huge - but you wouldnt think so with so many seperate areas, The wardens are very nice too.
Our trip ended in a thunderstorm with me not being able to see out the car windows, my wife (bless her) being soaked outside and the inside of the car soaked thorugh again. Caravanning and the British weather - dont we love it! Have just booked to go to Norfolk oin August!!! (Mr not so Grumpy now)

Glad you got away with it. We were in Whitley Bay (Old Hartley) and had be be recovered home by Mayday. The site was fine. It was an idiot driver on the road nearby who swamped our car. We are just hoping the cars is not a write off as it tows our Caravan
