Snow at Sandringham!
I like to go caravanning every month of the year, but as my caravan is my pride and joy, I am not encouraged by the pictures of caravans in the snow in the winter touring brochures sent out each year by the Caravan Club. I study the different weather forecasting websites, to try to ensure I don't set out into tricky conditions which could damage my car and caravan, and make me an additional obstacle on the roads.
Anyway, in February 2009 I set off for a trip to Sandringham CC site. It is only an hour's run from my home, it was chilly, but dry, the roads were fine, no sign of snow. I checked in, chose my hardstanding, set the caravan up, and had lunch. I decided to visit Castle Rising in the afternoon. I drove there, parked the car, and just as I started walking into the castle gateway, the first tell tale flakes of snow started to fall. By the time I had been there half an hour, the snow flakes were large, and were laying. I cut short my visit, drove carefully back to the site, by which time we had the makings of a winter wonderland! I retreated indoors, watched television and read a book. The snow stopped by the evening, and I must admit everywhere looked very pretty. In the morning, I took photos which I used in my Christmas cards the next year. Fortunately it did not keep on snowing the whole time, and I was able to enjoy walks in the area in the snow, well wrapped up. By the time I was ready to return home, there was still a good layer of snow on the fields and grass, but the roads had cleared sufficiently to make it a reasonable journey home. I still do my best to avoid the snow on my winter caravan trips, but can at least say I have 'braved' the elements once.

Like yourself we use our van every month of the year and have spent quite a few new year eves away. While we do not set out in the snow it has snowed while we have been away. My advice would be to sit tight - time permitting, turn up the heating, cook up
a hearty stew and enjoy the wonderland that has appeared.0 -
We were snowed in when visiting Derbyshire last March. Fortunately we were on the Chatsworth site so could walk through the snow to the house .. quite spectacular and not many other visitors about! A walk to Bamford for provisions
was equally so but the only shop open was up a hill on the other side of the village. At least a local farmer had been out clearing that road. Managed to get out on day planned as enough members' 4x4 vehicles had by then cleared the site roadway but we did
need to dig out a few metres from our pitch to the road with our versatile dustpan (me) and baking tray (Pat). All in all, a memorable break but next time .. must take a snow shovel!0
