Evolution

Evolution means changes. Some are good changes, some are not so good so "Evolution" is the right title for this little update. Firstly, we updated our rig, a new-to-us, 2007 Holiday Rambler RV. This is a good change! However, as everyone involved in caravanning and motorhoming will know, this always involves some compromises.

We drew up several lists of requirements; "must haves" (can't do without), "would likes" (that would be nice), and "not required" (don't want this), and then we searched the ads and travelled the roads to view possible purchases. We finally ended up with the RV we viewed first that was the at a dealer closest to our house! I have to say it ticked every box on our "must have" and "would like" lists but the compromise was that it is slightly larger than I wanted to go. Apparently you just can't fit a quart into a pint pot!! But 9 metres long is still manageable even though it's 100" wide and 11' 10" from the ground to the top of the roof-mounted air conditioning unit.

Then I spotted a Smart car with an A-frame conversion for sale on Ebay at a price that simply couldn't be ignored and so we moved into the world of A-frame towing (so much easier than dragging a trailer around!). This proved so popular that I've now bought a nearly new Fiat Panda already converted with a modern, electronically-braked A-frame at a good price.

As you should be able to tell by now, I can't stop spending money! You know the old saying "a fool and his money...etc. etc."? Well, I am that fool and I'm not rich, nor am I made of money, and so there came another change. After enjoying three years of early retirement I had to go back to work! Boo! This is a not-so-good change! It has curtailled our travelling lifestyle but, not forever!

I have attached a photo of our rig taken at the New Forest site at Easter this year, and another showing the slide-out taken just after we purchased the RV. It is super-comfortable to live in with just about ALL luxuries necessary for a good time. Don't ask about MPG!!!
