Hidden Treasure
Literally tucked away in mature woodland this small site is a wonderful venue for those who enjoy peace and quiet in the countryside. We recently spent 4 nights at this gently sloping site with most of the pitches being hardstandings but a fair proportion will require the use of ramps or the like for lateral levelling of your outfit as many of the pitches have a slight cross fall. The site met every expectation of cleanliness in its environs and sanitary facilities.
A fine village pub is located a few minutes walk through the trees following the path at the back of the site directly to the pub where a range of real ales and excellent reasonably priced meals are on offer. Lots of other places to visit in the area with the charming town of Rye just a few miles to the East and Battle with all its unique history slightly further away to the West.
The wardens who were temporarily filling the 'gap' whilst the regular wardens were away were kind and very helpful but understandably a little lacking in local knowledge. However, this in no way detracted from their willingness to unobtrusively assist.
The sat nav must be turned off when trying to locate the site and follow the directions in the Sites Directory, which is easy if you are approaching from the West but not quite so easy if coming from the East. In fact we stopped when we were close and phoned the wardens for more understandable directions as to turn left too soon would almost certainly end in tears!!
A great little site for couples but might not be so handy for young families as there is not a play area although plenty of woodland to run off that surplus energy but with Hastings and its beaches only a short drive down the road this might offer sutable altenative activities for the younger set.
