Last night in Spain - Playa Oyambre

Our last stop in Spain was on the coast at a site called Playa Oyambre. We were lucky because the sun was out and we could truly appreciate the view. In the distance we could see the peaks of the Picos de Europa and the Cantabrian Mountain range. They framed this luscious green area which we were duly informed is thanks to all the rain that they get. But it wasn't raining for us; the sun was smiling down on us.
The site offers a mixture of areas for tents, caravans and motorhomes and a large selection of bungalows. In the central area near the reception, there is a cafeteria / bar and extremely small shop (more like a bar) selling bread, cheese, milk and a few other bits and bobs. Outside this there are table tennis tables and table football. To the side there is a nice toilet block with laundry facilities and outdoor dish washing. Tucked behind this courtyard to the amenities there is a swimming pool (that is open in the summer), a playground and football pitch.
The attraction for this site is the nearby beach - a 15 minute walk away. It is a wide sandy beach with clear blue water. A cafeteria sits perched on the edge, offering food and drinks and will undoubtedly be busy in the summer months. We saw a couple of surfers and kayakers making the most of the crashing waves.
This site is also ideal for exploring the nearby National Parks, mountains and of course has easy access to Santander. Our ferry, the following afternoon was leaving from Bilbao - a pleasant two hour drive away along the coast.
And so marks the end of our Spanish trip abroad. In just under a month we have stayed at eleven different Caravan Club sites, explored by foot, bike, bus and metro and seen beaches, markets, mountains and festivals. We have loved Spain and whilst we weren't able to spend longer there and explore further south, we felt we got a good flavour of what it had to offer. Hasta luego Espana - we look forward to returning.
