Our Day Trip to Cannes
We last camped at Mandelieu-La Napoule on the Côte d’Azur six years ago. This time we’re on a campsite just 10 minutes’ walk up and over the hill from the old part of La Napoule. There’s a nice little beach, bijou hotels and the railway station from where you can catch a train to all stops to Marseille in one direction, and Vintimille in the other (Cannes, Nice, Monaco, Menton). However, the number 20 bus to Cannes stops outside our campsite and for 1.50€ each, we set off for Cannes yesterday. The buses are punctual, every 30 minutes, and deposits you at the Hotel de Ville stop, le Gare Routiere and its famous fresco.
The old harbour was shrouded from view by marquees set up for the forthcoming sailing festival, so we walked to the cheap section of the prom for coffee at a kiosk.
We then set off along the famous La Croisette with its luxury hotels and expensive beach restaurants.
Catherine posed on the famous red carpet at the fiml festival cinema.
Lunch for us was ‘Panini on the Prom’ from another kiosk. Then we walked along the prom to look back at Cannes. All along the promenade there were signs in various languages warning that the fine for dropping a cigarette ends was 180€! As La Croisette is well patrolled by the municipal police, there were few butts to be seen.
We toyed with the idea of walking all the way back to La Napoule, but the sun was coming out and the temperature was about 30C, so we caught the bus back and Cath went for swim in the campsite pool.
Our campsite is Côté Mer (ACSI ref 2407). It’s a little gem of a site, family-run with a pool, restaurant and well-kept sanfacs.
Tomorrow we set off for Italy and our 45th wedding anniversary!

Always a delight to hear from you Brue! We camped at Finale Ligure last night and had an anniversary dinner at the site restaurant. Tonight we're at Campeggio 'Tiglio' by Lake Garda.:-)
It's sunny and hot and the sky is blue - but we're only here for one night as we're on our way to Croatia

Lovely photos Chas & Cath. I know you visit this area quite a bit after seeing your son but I can see why anoyone would do so. We shall have to make the effort and go there one day. We've got the warmth & the sun now down in Murcia and hopefully the last
of the torrential rain over the past couple of days. I thought we had a plane dropping shells on us this morning! Regards, Roy0
