Short break in Hampshire
From 19th to 22nd August I visited the Morn Hill Caravan Club Site near Winchester. I had two things in mind, firstly to visit Winchester itself to see the Cathedral, and visit the Hampshire Regiment Museum, and secondly to visit the Watercress Line steam railway which runs from Arlesford to Alton.
Unfortunately the weather wasn't great so I decided that the visit to the City was better in the rain and I would save the railway for the more promising weather promised for the following day.
The site is served by bus route No 64 (half hour service) which will take you to both locations and whch the typically helpful Warden told me about, although I made the mistake of deciding to drive to the railway at Arlesford and had some difficulty finding parking for my camper van.
Both visits were very rewarding and I would recommend both. Winchester itself would merit several days, as there are a lot of interesting historic sites there and several other military museums if that is your 'thing'.
The Morn Hill Site itself is pleasant, and level, although the toilet block is not really up to current Caravan Club standard, and I suspect would 'struggle' if the Site was really busy. I was surprised to realise that I had not visited before, probably because I tend to head for The New Forest or the coast when visiting Hampshire.
Nonetheless a good short break
