Homeward Bound
We left the Côte d'Azur last Thursday and headed northwards to Carpentras where we stopped for three nights at the municipal site, Camping Lou Comtadou. Every Friday there's an enormous market that spreads throughout the old town centre, so we caught the free shuttle bus from the campsite next day. It's a 20 minute walk, but temperatures were in the thirties. Thank goodness for a shaded pitch and free access to the swimming pool next door!
The town was also host to an international folk-dance and music gathering. Here's a Russian group that were singing and dancing their way through the vieux ville.
Our next stop was Camping International right on the banks of the Ardèche at Vallon Pont d'Arc. From our pitch we could look down on the weir and the canoeists. There's a free shuttle across the bridge to the town and to the famous Pont d'Arc.
We arrived at Hauterives in the Drôme yesterday at Camping Hauterives for a two night stop and a visit to the Palais Ideal du Facteur Cheval: not everyone's cup of tea, but interesting. (Mr Cheval was inspired by the pictures he saw from around the world on the newly introduced ‘Postcards’ he was delivering!)
Tomorrow we set off in earnest for Langres, Val de Vesle, Les Eschelles and the ferry on Monday (fingers crossed). To make our landfall less stressful we're booked into Ferry Meadows for acclimatization
