First family trip
This was my first trip with my family in and towing a caravan. The weather was fine with only a couple of showers.
I was brought up caravanning with my parents. My first rally was in 1972 with the Thompson owners club. However things have moved on somewhat since those days.
We live in Norfolk and are familiar with the area but this trip was to become familiar with the caravan and regarded as a bit of a practice run.
The site is lovely and is probably one of the nicest sites I have ever been on (I have done quite a bit of camping in tents too) Access is restricted as it’s a single track entrance/exit but this is explained when booking. We joined the caravan club because we were told of the standard of the sites and we were not disappointed. The site is well spilt up considering the amount of pitches and tailors well for what you want. i.e. Quiet areas to the more open/populated area where the kids play park is located. There are many trees that overhang the pitches but this was not an issue for me as I was in the open.
Pitches are uneven so levelling blocks are required on most pitches from what I saw. Facilities are good and kept to a good standard of cleanliness. The wardens were friendly and in my case very helpful offering up advice for a newbie.
The local area is brilliant but I am biased living in Norfolk. West Runton is a small coastal village with some shops – the camping shop is good and has an internet site, some pubs and a social club which advertises that all are welcome. We did not use the licensed venues so cannot comment on the quality of them. However, the beach is good and dogs have an area they are welcome. We walked from the site with our 6 & 4 year old. The beach is 1 mile from the site. Part of the beach has rock pools, good for old and young in my opinion and there is a beached side too. (Watch out for the flint and weaver fish - wear beach shoes!)
There are good connections in the area with both bus and train services however if you want a phone signal I struggle in the area with 3G on Vodafone network.
Summing up fantastic site, met some good people, love the area and will certainly return.
