Hi, very new to this but hoping the community might be able to help recently started caravaners.

Mysteriously our Avondale caravan was hitched up and made its way up to Gairloch and decided to lighten its load of its own accord.by the way of removing the large 600 x 900 Remis Remitop rooflight.

Weekend stay was breezy and quite noisy due to the tarpaulin repair that was hastely fabricated.

A new replacement will cost anything from £400- £500 incl del or the best I can do for a second hand one is £150 plus £120 del!

I suppose question is, as I'm not bothered if its an original part as it is our first caravan and not terribly expensive, can I fit a more universal rooflight and if so where would i get one?

I hope someone out there is full of information and is just dying to help us out Happy

Thanks in advance

Unfortunately Willie63 you may have to replace with a like for like part.  Alternatives are supplied by Heki and have a different cut out size.  These will also cost between £200-300 each.

I'll move your post to the Caravans section to see if anybody else has any bright ideas.

when i was buying/selling electric golf trolleys a few years ago, i used Parcel Force which would send upto 25kg for (at that time) £10 for a 48 hr service door to door. i think its around £12 these days....

you can even set it up for them to collect from the sender and then you are in control of the postage costs...you can add (further) insurance if required.

There has always been a problem with the large remis tops being lost on route!Poor design is to blame (most of the time). The older style is now obsolete and you will require a complete new unit rather than just the cover.I beleive the price to be around
£530 plus carriage and fitting.....justifyable as an insurance claim.

Not that it's much help in finding replacements, but I have just lost a rear roof light between Langres and Calais. The caravan is nearly 3 yrs old! I blame poor design and poor selection of manufacturing materials, i.e.not u.v. stable plastics.

Just to update re the disappearing roof light, my dealer has fitted a replacement at a cost of £50.00 ! I don't know the original maker but the replacement looks identical. So maybe you should check your supplier?
