Battery Drain
Before I go back to my dealer 63 miles away across the Thames, I thought that I would see if anyone has any suggestions on finding out why my battery is draining. The battery is on mains all the time that it is on the drive.
On Friday I used the Powrtouch mover to turn the van around and to hitch up. I then took it for a run to test the Tyrepal setup, a distance of about 10 miles. I reckon that over that distance the car's spare charge went into re-charging it's own battery
rather than the van's 110ah battery. When I returned and unhitched the van was across the gateway and the mover failed to respond (no LED lights at all showing on the control unit). I connected the mains for an hour and a half but still no response. I left
it overnight on charge (through the van's onboard charger).
Next morning the mover failed to respond first time but, after turning it off and then on again, everything worked and I parked the van using the mover. Checking the battery meter on the van's control panel it read just 12v. I put it on mains charge again
for a couple of hours (meter shows 12.75v on charge). Disconnecting the mains supply, the meter showed 12.5v but I could see it slowly dropping and after an hour it was down to 12v again. I repeated the exercise with the same result.
It's now been on charge overnight for 16hrs and was showing 12.5v when disconnected from the mains. An hour later it's a smidgin below 12v and the bright green light on the battery itself is a green ring with a green dot in the middle and less bright. It's
a 110ah Lincon Battery (Southend-on-Sea) supplied by the dealer.
All electrics are off, alarm, fridge, microwave, pump etc.. The van and battery are only a month old so it's back to the dealer...........if I can move it as we're on a slope!!
When we picked the van up, the mover didn't work first attempt and the technician said "Oh perhaps I didn't push the key in enough" and it worked on the second attempt.I've had the same issue a few times since and it seems to work best when the key is pushed
in firmly to switch the unit on.
But the battery seems to be the prime suspect.
Any thoughts.......?
