BHP and Torque. On paper v's real life
So, as we know in most cases, what the car says it should produce power wise on paper, isn't always the reality, sadly in most cases it's usually less
Long story short, I ended up putting my 2001 Passat 1.9 TDI (130) on a rolling road last weekend. The results shocked me!
I know I have a minor moost leak, the car has 101,000 miles on the clock. She runs 100% standard engine, no modifications at all.
The book says 130bhp and 210 lb/ft of torque.
I got 143bhp and 235 lb/ft of torque. a 10% increase in both areas. Talking to the RR operator 130PD engines always produce more than standard, with my slight boost leak fixed i could see a bit more. (would have helped if i'd had my tyre pressures spot on too )
Interesting I thought, what power I thought i'd have, was way off the mark. (Expecting a 120/200 personally). Enough to be a game changer when thinking about power to weight!
Maybe I was a bit harsh on the "Gutless" x-trail
