Auto Gas for caravans

I'm planning to make an extended tour from the UK down as far as Croatia now I've retired and I have a faint memory of reading about Auto Gas for caravans. My very limited experience of Europe was gained with the help of the airlines rather than "overland".

I understand that Calor propane is not as freely available as in the UK but Auto Gas from garages is. Probably an error to assume that the filling connections are the same as the ones used over here but if they are it would save having to buy cylinders and
reducers along the way to feed the cooker etc.

Has anybody any experience to help?
