Adult Only trend

We have recently returned from a four week tour using only CL’s.

Whilst staying in an area we often look at nearby sites to assess them for future use.

What has been most marked this September is that Adult Only sites attract far more custom than “family” sites, even though at this time of year there is only likely to be children on site at week-ends.

Of a sample of 18 CL’s the average occupancy of Adult Only was 3.9 units while the family CL’s averaged 1.5.

One CL owner who has changed to Adult Only this year said it had transformed her business and she often has to turn custom away.

My conclusion from this admittedly small sample is that if you are a CL owner who needs to increase their occupancy and income then become Adult Only.

This seems counter-intuitive as you would expect more custom by being available to all potential customers, but this does not seem to be the case.

If this trend continues then families with children are going to have fewer sites to choose from in the future though perhaps the up side will be more vacant pitches available to book on those children-friendly
sites as a lot of adults will have gone elsewhere.
