Have just quickly read through this month's magazine and they have done a bit on vacuum cleaners.  I noticed that all but one are the hand held devices.  I just wish to tell you, if anyone's interested, that we've just bought a Morphy Richards 352005.  Its
an upright one, but the great thing is, it can be folded in half and is small enough to put in a cuboard at the top.  Its really good at cleaning.  We have a cat (a semi-longhair) so he leaves his fur everywhere, and it sweeps up with no problem, and it runs
on a battery.  It takes approx 4/5 hours to re-charge (seems the norm), and I can use it 3/4 times through the week before recharging - very good indeed
