We tend to stop at any site that happens to be closest to where we want to be and this sometimes includes independent sites. We then use websites such as UKcampsite.co.uk to look for reviews and it does seem to me, in general, that reviewers on this site
tend to provide favourable reviews if they actually enjoyed themselves, the owners were friendly and other campers didn't spoil it. It can very difficult to sort the wheat from the chaff and you have to look into little comments to work out what the campsite
is like, for example, one site was described as " brilliant, great owners and other users were so firendly to us. OK so you had to take your rubbish to the tip 4 miles away but we just waited until we were going that way and we didn't mind that we couldn't
get a phone signal. Made a nice change..."

At least most CC sites tend to have a uniformity to them and by and large the reviews on CLs tell me most of what I want to know. If not then someone like NTH or TTDA will always know the answerHappy
