Towcar Tyres

I currently tow with a Mercedes R Class. This is a brilliant towcar but I need some help and advice with regards to replacing tyres. The car currently has AMG wheels with low profile tyres, the size being 265/40R21, but these do give a hard ride and tend
to track on grooves or bumps in the road. I need new tyres at a cost of £268 each, but I am thinking of fitting 18" wheels with a higher profile ie. 235/55 R18 at a cost of £1500 for all four tyres and wheels. apart from giving a softer ride would they be
better for towing?
