It is amazing the number of people who do not insure their caravan for whatever reason. Many quote that their caravan is worth less than £1000 so not worth insuring.

They do not take into consideration that although the caravan may be valued at less than £1000, the contents may be worth another £1000. In addition, if their caravan catches on fire and damages property, they may be liable for all costs and this could bankrupt
them and cause them to lose their home!

Also it has come to my attention that many people think that while towing a caravan, the caravan is insured when it is not as only third party cover applies.

Recently at a caravan storage site near Tewkesbury, many caravans valued at over £10,000 were lost due to a fire and they were not insured. Today someone has posted on another forum asking for help as they recently bought a newish caravan and put it into undercover
storage thinking it would be safe from theft. They were correct on the theft element, but the area was flooded and the caravan stood in 4 foot of water for 2 weeks and is a write off. They were not insured.

I know insurance is not mandatory, but even our first caravan valued at about £1200 was insured mainly for the third party cover with the bonus a market value pay out. IMHO all caravans should have a minimum of third party cover and this should be enforced.

Many storage sites make it a condition of their T & Cs that the caravan is insured while on their property even though it does not remove their obligations even though some of the terms may be deemed unfair under "Unfair terms in consumer contracts regulations".

Finally is your caravan insured from the day you collect it and then all the time?
