Best route from New Forest CC to Lymington ferry?

Any suggestions on route as my TomTom Camping and Caravan is taking me from New Forest CC site north up the A35 at first to Lydhurst and then down to Lymington making a 11ml journey a 19 mile trip.  Is this the better route or is there another route?  We
are travelling on a Sunday morning so hopefully roads will be quiet.
