New Caravan Problems

Picked up brand new caravan in February 2013.

Unfortunately we are now having issues with the ceiling bowing and leaving a gap of up to 4mm above the kitchen units.

I have not spoken to the dealer yet (we have only just discovered the problem) but will do so soon. Hopefully the dealer will sort it all out and make it as good as new. The dealer has a good reputation with our caravanning friends!

However, I would like to be clear what my options are if things do not go so well.

I understand I can try and reject the van straight away as not fit for purpose. I would need to get a report confirming the problem from the Institute of Automotive Engineers.  Alternatively I can give the dealer one opportunity to fix the van. If the repair
is unsatisfactory  I can then reject the van. At the moment I think this may well be the best option.

Has anybody gone down this "1 fix" route with a dealer? How does this affect my legal position if the problem then reappears in 3-12 months time? If it has to go back to the manufacturer for repair I suspect there could be quite a delay.

Has anybody ever commissioned a report from the Instituteof Automotive Engineers? If so how much was it?

Grateful for any advice.
