TV signal, what equipment is best please

Hi there, we have been touring Scotland for 2 weeks with our tourer. some sites are OK for TV signal and we saw some people with satellite dishes outside their vans, one site we went to they hired us a box for us to return at the end of our stay and get our money back. We have an extended TV aerial cable but we don't know what would be best to buy to get a signal in those more remote areas, can anyone help? thank you
