Vauxhall Insignia tow bar electrics

I have just bought an Insignia and intend having a tow bar fitted. Having done a little research, I am a little confused in regard to the vehicle electrical system, as to whether or not to get a bypass harness fitted, or a software download . Could anyone
please give me some advice, together with any experience of this dilemma?
