The first one we had was a Swift .. After a couple of weeks it just got called the Bl**dy Thing .. As in it's bl**dy well gone wrong again.

The new one is just called Laika. Dashboard Doris gets called all sorts of things especially when she takes you down a narrow lane and then tells you to do a UTurn ..

    Was  it  not  a  welknown  caravan  hater / destroyer  who  worked  out  that  German  S/Ns  had  a  Male  voice  'cos  no  Red  Blooded  Male  German  would  obey  a  female  voice (   Surprised) !!  French  ones  came  with  a  sexy  Lady Voice  to  get  your  attention,  but  British  ones  only  had  on screen  instructions  'cos  the  Brit  drivers  wont  listen  to  anybody  {  They  know  best Tongue Out  }

OOPS,  sorry  -->  back  to  the  OP's  Thread   !!

the van...seems the most logical and the least confusingUndecided

do folk have names for dishwashers, washing machines, food mixers and other white goods?Wink

can just imagine putting the dishes in Diasy, the washing in Winnifred or food into Millie the mixer.....just doesnt seem quite right to me to have names for inanimate objects...

Like BB, ours is called the van.  And our car is called the car. We've never thought of giving MHs a name.

Do caravanners give their caravan a name?  Or is it just a MH thing (for some)?

The MH is known as 'The Van'. It's gender neutral - how could it be otherwise? It's an object and can't be personified with names or gender labels. I did that with my Teddy Bear when I was a child.

Ours is the van too....my teddy was teddy, unfortunately, one day, I handed "him" over to a friendly dog. I will be more careful with "the van." Wink

We are caravanners, our van is the "Leaky Lunar" butSad we used to have a "Fabulous  Fendt"

Ok, but do you say: we're going away in the Leaky Lunar, or: we're going away in the (cara)van?

We always say we're going away in the van, as opposed to going to stay in a hotel for a couple of days, or flying to Greece for a week.

Homa, gender neutral as far as were concerned. Less of a mouthful than motorhome. So named as home away from home. No don't name anything else unless its human or animal.

My late father would always say 'your mothers doing her washing or her ironing' despite the bulk of it belonging to others. Guaranteed to wind me up! it is always THE cooker, iron, vac etc in my world and you'd be picked up on it too started me on feminism without me even understanding the concept or knowing the word That said he'd happily cook housework etc so I don't understand why it was referred to that way!

As I said earlier we do have names for the M/H and my car, however we do say we are going away in the 'van'  we have 2 cars and a trike, my car got the name Hank as his Reg is HNK so has always been known as Hank the Gkids started that. OH's car is just called by its model, and the Trike is 'Metro'  because its a Peugeot 'Metropolis'  Smile

Washing machine, dishwasher, iron, vacuum, are just that, they don't have fancy names.

Bakers my Dad used to refer to everything as Mum's but then again he didn't lift a finger with anything housework, if she went out shopping into town she would leave him a flask of tea and a sandwich Surprised my OH doesn't do any cooking but he does do most other things around the house and has always done his own ironing.

We call ours 'The heap of crap' because we think Hymer cut too many corners trying to get inside the 3500kg limit through experimentation. Some innovative ideas in our van did not make make it into subsequent models. It's still better built than many, though,
just not as good as my previous Hymer. It's just irritating how many things break and need replacing/repairing even though its over 3 years old now [not all are Hymer's doing]. If it stopped having niggly faults, we might find a name for it that is more flattering.

I have always stayed away from nameing cars, we call ours by the colour, silver one, black one or brown one (don't ask why we've got 3) but for some reason I started calling the M/H "The Villa" when we first got it as that is how I felt about it
Laughing We call the sat nav Shirley because she is bossy just like my step mother who was called .... Shirley

Lots of mixed thoughts on names. My wife thinks it should be called 'Paddy' . I'm still undecided, perhaps it's like waiting to see your baby for the first time to decide on their name!
