Land Rover Freelander unhooking/spare wheel prob

Hi

I've got a 2005 Land Rover Freelander TD4 HSE great car for towing and all but when it comes to hooking/unhooking i have a real drama. I have a detachable bar by Land Rover/Brink. It seems that the bar doesnt stick out far enough. When i Hook on / hook off
i have to have the car pointing at 10-11 o'clock from the van to clear the spare wheel on the back of the car, otherwise i cant lift the alko stablizer up enough to unhook.

Wrong bar fitted or just bad design from Land Rover?

Also is there such a thing as a bar extension?
