It is quite frightening Roobz, when I visited we were told by the tour company to believe that every bit of water could house a Croc & during the Holiday the tour guide was proved mostly correct. The natives are used to it but it freaked me. It must have
been devastating to witness the loss of His son. Very sad.

It is devastating, but beggars belief that they allowed a two year old to paddle there. Clear signs up saying no bathing. Something is going badly wrong with parenting skills In the USA at the moment, first the little boy and the gorilla, and now this poor
    little boy.

Sorry to hear that the wee boy lost his life. . But .The animal was only doing what it does naturally.

The question has to be asked though. Why did the parents allow the child anywhere near the water. The safety of that child was their responsibility ---They failed as parents !!!. And due to that failure a child is now dead.

Unfortunately it is not only in the States. Just look on our own doorstep, the Mc Canns for instance, also the British family in Spain last year, Father is in the bar swilling beer down his gullet and Mother is fast asleep on the sunbed by the hotel complex pool
until someone rushed to her and woke her up and said is that your child upside down in the pool (3 year old now dead) Is this what we Brits call parenting? I have every sympathy for the child and non for the so called parents whatsoever if they were proper
parents the children would still be alive, RIP children.

Tragic accidents can happen anywhere to anybody, and there's always a very big IF ! but yes so many now involving children has been down to lack of care,

    only a few days ago police had to brake into a car to free a young child that was locked in in sky high temperatures she survived but only just.  Again lack of care by parents who I believe left her asleep while they went shopping {#emotions_dlg.yell}

Our plan was to take the Grandkids to Florida to celebrate our 60th birthday in 3 years time, now starting to think of some were else. So sad

Why is it so sad? I know that there are only in excess of 20+ million people living in Florida and that excludes tourists and visitors which pump up that figure a great deal and they are not going to abandon Florida any time soon. If parents or guardians
look after children which is what they are supposed to do amongst other things what is the problem? Dangers lurk everywhere including outside your own front door regarding traffic but to name one of many dangers.

I think Sell was expressing his sadness regarding the poor little boy, not that he is having a rethink regarding visiting Florida.Happy

In reality you are far more likely to die on one of the rides, or from a car crash or plane crash or terrorist event or lightning or sink holes or armed robbery ....the list goes on.Surprised (no
need to change your plans over that)

Florida is full of Aligators (not Crocs), you see them all over.

Ther way you can tell the difference is:

Aligators will see you later, where as Crocodiles will see you in a while!

It's not rocket science being a parent or guardian, one of the many duties is to lead children
AWAY from danger NOT lead them to it. People swan off to foreign countries and don't bother whatsoever in doing their homework first as to the regulations, laws, dangers etc etc and then moan and create when they get back home.
I have no time for people like that, "when in Rome....." there is absolutely no excuse for not finding out about everything that needs to be known whether it is in Florida, Australia or anywhere else for the matter and that also includes driving laws as well.

It is the Father and Mother of a child that is totally responsible for their childs welfare not uncles, grandfathers, neighbours, friends etc. If they are incapable (which so many are proved to be) of bringing up a child in safety then they shouldn't have
them, they don't deserve them my sympathy is with the child only and for having inconsiderate and selfish parents whom neglect them for their own pleasures and then those parents expect sympathy from the public, well those so called parents can jog on because
    they are not parents..

Understand  why and what your saying kjlc , but there are genuine and unforeseen accidents that do happen ,

my sister fell down a flight of steps at a bus station on landing at bottom she crashed into a lady pushing a new born in a pushchair the pushchair went over the baby was upset but thank god not hurt , if she had been injured who's fault my sisters for falling
or mothers for not seeing or holding on to pushchair tight enough , genuine accident nobody's fault they do happen

Your case was an accident, a million miles from a mother deserting her 2 year old child for her own pleasures and as for the so called father what was he doing? probably in the hotel complex bar swilling beer down his gullet like that case last year and
watching football. Clearly if he and or his mother were being a PROPER parent then this 2 year old would still be alive and that cannot be disputed in this case whatsoever. It just cannot be classified as an accident whatsoever the parents should be charged
with neglect causing a death because that is exactly what it was and nothing less.

I understand what you are saying and those sort of accidents can happen to anybody it is so easy to trip or fall down and are unfortunate accidents. Hope your sister was okay afterwards apart from the shock. Deserting one's children and neglecting them such
as the Mc Canns and both cases referred to here is a totally different ball game. Every time it's the kids that come out worst, it's their life ended for good they are not my kids but it still infuriates me non the less.

She was o k thank you, many bruises, didn't stop mother having a screaming loud foul mouth rant at her for not looking where she was going, and wondered why other commuters didn't stop to help

but there was a funny side to it the mother somehow never dropped a bag of chips she had in her hand Laughing

Just wonder if we have the whole story sometimes. Do we only see things from one persons point of view?

Did Disney post enough warning signs? BBC Reports say possibly not, and apparently the situation is being reviewed.

alligators and crocs move fast - you only have to watch nature programmes to know this. Surely Disney could have done more to warn/protect guests?

I'm not saying the parents shouldnt have been more vigilant, just that there's probably more to this than meets the eye

I suppose that I am somewhat taking sides here. What else can they do besides hold every torists hand? There are plenty of warning signs that say "no swimming" but there is always a smart Alec (sorry Alec excuse the pun) when someone will say, "but I'm not
swimming". I refuse to believe that nobody told them that allligators lurk in the lagoon. There is no excuse for not researching where one is going and listening to the locals. I have never been to Australia but without researching I am already fully aware
of the existance crocodiles, alligators, snakes, spiders, insects etc. if ever I went there which is not going to happen anytime soon researching is a number one priority I don't expect anyone to hold my hand and nursemaid me.

a terrible tragedy, possibly avoided, but kids need total supervision if you want to be totally sure of their whereabouts and their safety, yet still a surprisingly easy thing to get distracted from....

    BTW.......According to Wikipedia.....

Alligators are native only to the United States and China.

The large native reptile of Australia is the Saltwater Crocodile.

i dont expect everyone who visits a particular territory to be fully conversant with the native wildlife but, you are right, a rough understanding of the potential dangers doesnt go amiss.

according to my 31 yr old daughter, we are overdue a Florida trip but doubt we will be staying in the Grand Floridian.
