Fuel consumption and nose weight
This might seem a bit strange. The nose weight for my S-Max is 90kg max. I've normally towed at that and the fuel consumtion is usually around 30mpg. However I got thinking that perhaps it would be better to tow with less nose weight with a view to getting
a bit more weight onto the front wheels of the car and so improve traction. So I dropped the nose weight to about 65kg.
Now I didn't do this scientifically and I'm just going off the figures given on the car's display but it would appear that the economy dopped to about 24mpg. The only explanation that I can think of was that the caravan stability system was putting on the
brakes. because the caravan wasn't as steady.
I can't say that I noticed any difference though and it has always towed perfectly.
Has anyone else noticed anything like this?
