13 pin problems

Hi can anyone help please, we plan to go to france in 10 days time, i have only just discovered our vw passat has 13 pin electrics, and our eriba has 7 pin, so i got the recomended single adapter from halfords, but when i try the lights, the indicator on
the opposite side of the van comes on, and stays on without flashing, oh no,  is this a problem with the car? the van? or the adapter , and ideas , urgently would be helpful please,
