Outer Hebrides with a motorhome - any advice?
Thinking about a visit to the Outer Hebridies this May, as part of a 3 week trip to Scotland, I have been looking at the various Island Hopper tickets on the CalMac website. There are so many different permutations available that my head was spinning at
first trying to make sense of them all.
Since we want to visit someone on the east coast on our way home the plan is to travel up the west coast first. Which probably means crossing from Oban, and eventually returning to Ullapool.
So, a couple of questions. Is it worth the extra fare and time to visit Barra? And is it worth travelling from Uist to Harris via Skye, or is Skye worth a visit on its own another time, given that we probably have a max of about 10-12 days we can spend
in the Islands?
Any other advice about motorhoming on the Islands, places to visit, sites to use (or avoid) would be appreciated. Also how essential is advance booking for the ferries in May?
