A-Frame Brake Cable Failure

The wire cable which activates the foot pedal on my tow car fractured while we were on holiday in France.   I was fortunate that I located a replacement cable only 25km away and the generosity of the staff at Etang de la Breche and my neighbours allowed
the car to be back on the road in two days.

Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Where did the cable snap?

I think the problem arises from the cable working by compression when the foot brake is used and the A Frame not being used.   Any thoughts welcome
