Best way of keep battery charged over winter?

My battery appears dead after six months of no use.  The van it was in did have an alarm which I guess has run it down.  I've just spent 2 days on ehu and the battery is still dead.  Will a proper battery charger resurrect it or do I need a new battery?

If I get a new battery what's the best way of ensuring this doesn't happen again? It's now in a new van with no alarm so will it no longer be an issue as nothing's draining the battery?

caravan is in storage so my choices would either me take the battery out the caravan and bring it home.  I'd have to buy a charger and find somewhere to store it all which might be a problem.

Alternative is a solar panel but I cant afford the expense of having it fitted to the roof and don't have the DIY skills to do it myself.  So realistically I could only put it in the front window.  I've read conflicting reports about whether it would get
enough sun.

battery is for ehu failure only.  we always camp with ehu and don't have a motor mover.

A caravan battery needs to be either used and re-charged or kept on charge all of the time. Your easiest solution is to take it out at the end of the season and leave it on a Smart Charger over winter at home.

The CTEK range are excellent. You may even be lucky and resurrect the old battery as these units are as the name implies "smart" and pulse charge to the batteries needs.

I could say we have another glitch in the system, but that would be negative of me!

I don’t think it’s the system which has a glitch on this occasion😂😂

I have frequent glitches according to my lovely wife, and who am I to argue. But this afternoon this thread did come up at the top of "Recent Discussions", so something must be amiss.

Every so often vintage threads seem to appear on this platform. Is it because somebody has "Liked" them and they have resurfaced at the top of your feed?

It surfaced because a post was made this afternoon although the poster wrote no words. Did you not notice it when you first posted? Nothing untoward with the software for a change as it’s all perfectly logical.👍

I must learn to read the small print, eg % ALC by vol.
