What do you do?

Driving around the M25 today, listening to the radio, the traffic news announced serious delays on the approach to the QE bridge, in fact I believe the motorway was closed in one direction for most if not all morning. It got me thinking, if you were caught
up in this and could exit the motorway what then is the best route to try and get to the channel crossing points. Even if you managed to bypass the problem, there is bound to be serious congestion and you will more than likely miss your booked trip. What do
you do then?

Its never happened to me yet on this route but I have been stuck in a motorway jam for over 5 hours on one occasion.
