Car and caravan breakdown insurance

Last year I bought the Arrival breakdown policy provided by the RAC and it cost about £170. The renewal notice this year asks for a premium of £304.46p! To add insult to injury, I made no call outs on the policy last year.

Any advice on best buys for combined car and caravan breakdown insurance gratefully received.

Thanks, Paddy

We have just renewed our Caravan Club Mayday cover with Green Flag at £100.  Will cover car and caravan, or in our case motorhome.  No size or weight restrictions.

Renewed our Mayday breakdown cover yesterday.  Premium cover which includes 2 cars cost us £124!  If you have a Nationwide Flexplus account, it is inclusive with the account so free.

Not sure if I am posting in the correct place but concerns breakdown cover with Green Flag/Mayday.  We had a breakdown (not towing luckily) yesterday afternoon at 4 p.m. Green Flag gave various ETA's,  Catalogue of disasters but suffice to say that car arrived
back home 3 miles away at 10 p.m. after several calls to Mayday - even at one stage given the number of tow service & told "ring them yourself".  I managed to get my disabled wife taken home but as the vehicle was parked outside shops in a "socially difficult"
area I stayed with the vehicle.  Had they collected the car in good time it could have been taken to Land Rover garage but by that time they were closed.  They now say I have to pay £3.60 per mile over 10 mile limit to the tow service to get the vehicle there
on Monday morning, surely the service should be better than this.  I will be putting the complaint in writing but checkecd with a couple of caravan friends & they have had similar disastrous experiences. Perhaps as we have been club members for more than 40
years the Club should know about this??

Only had to call them out once and they were very good, so a positive experience for us so will be renewing my policy in June

If they failed you in the way you say a formal complaint is the way forward. It is clear however from most posts on this forum the service is generally good but like everybody else they have the odd failure.  Moving it to another provider does not seem to
help as the same thing can happen with any of them.

Really impressed with the Caravan Club, they apparently read this notice, took it up with Green Flag and it seems the information we were given was not correct.  We ARE covered for full recovery.  Although Green Flag after a formal complaint eventually agreed
to get the car to Land Rover as a "one-off" gesture of good-will, CC confirm that it should not be a "one off" offer we should have been offered the service we pay for and not charged extra, so a big thank you to CC for acting swiftly &, what is more important,
we are clear on GF's obligations for the future.
