Having done 6 weeks in Europe in the summer we've decided we can't wait until the summer for our next adventure so we're heading up around Ben Nevis with the kids (aged 9 & 13) between Christmas and New Year,

As new(ish) motorhome owners who'd never considered going away in the middle of winter before, We'd love to hear any advice or recommendations to try and avoid any catastrophes! The van is a 2014 Swift Lifestyle on a Fiat Ducato body in case it makes a difference.

Prepping the van - anything special we should be doing other than making sure the anti freeze is well topped up

I'll be having a new set of tyres fitted before we go and unsure whether to go with full on snow tyres or to compromise on more general winter tyres (it's a 500 mile journey each way, not too fussed about any additional fuel economy)

Snow chains - Are they worth getting, Halfords seem to be doing them for around the £100 mark

Blankets, duvets, boots, warm clothes, hats and gloves, fresh gas bottles and sledges are all on the list.

Any thoughts or suggestions gratefully received
