Porch awning not reaching the ground properly

We're using a Star Camp Magnum 260 awning on our Bailey Ranger GT60.  Problem is, no matter what I do, and what kind of pitch I'm on, I can't get the awning to reach the ground.

The side skirts are billowing round and barely touching the ground.  Also, it seems nearly impossible to get the side of the awning to stay next to the van.

The awning rail height is about 230cm, which I think is normal, and I've tried pulling on the adjusters for the poles as hard as I can with no effect.

Is the awning rubbish?  I'm suspecting that the poles may be too long, as I'm having quite a job to fit them, with no room to spare at the end.
