Best motorhome weight

We are after some advice on what the best weight for our motorhome is and what we should do, not really just for the UK but in Europe - more the northern side.

Our (Brand new) Hobby motorhome was advertised as 3500kg and we bought it under that impression. Hobby say uprating it to 4250kg is an option, but we were happy with 3500kg and it was sold and registered as such.

Turned out it its plated (both plates) to 4250kg, the dealers have been ok, initially saying it was 3500 until i pointed out the plates, but they have said they will send us a 3500kg plate if we go to the weigh bridge and send that to them.

What makes life more interesting is its tax status with the DVLA, its registered and taxed as if it was 3500kg as a PLG as opposed to a PGV (or whatever).

Driving licence isnt an issue and wont be for ages as i have CE, my wife cant drive it at 4t - but she doesnt anyway.

So its really for us to decide - do we want it at 3500 or 4250kg.

What i dont get, if its 4250kg, does this just give 750kg extra payload (1300kg total)...the manual states it has about 590kg when its in its 3500kg form and all it lists for 4250kg is an increased axle allowance...no additional weight as standard in 4250kg form. Equally the manual states its unladen weight which in the UK would allow the higher speeds as its under 3050kg- just not in eurpoe

Anyway - thoughts would be useful thanks
