Is the club irresponsible?
Just returned from a weekend away with friends (and no CT) to find threads complaining about folk drinking on site and about trees, for heaven’s sake! So that’s two more things to add to the list
of items some folk want to whinge about. You know the one that starts with kids and dogs, continues with speeders, cyclists, pitch invaders, folk with foreign vans, grass cutting, teachers ()
– the list is endless seemingly.
All of which begs the bigger question which is this – is the club being irresponsible in encouraging some people to tow vans (or drive MHs) around the country at all? After all, they’re using
increasingly scarce non-renewable energy supplies, blighting some of the more picturesque parts of the country with row after row of white (or off white) tin boxes. Then when they get to their destination they’re likely to increase erosion by tramping on country
footpaths, clog up the local shops for local people etc – what a nuisance.
And then there are all those other people to complain about.
So I’ve been giving it some thought and I think I may have stumbled on the answer – the club should promote “caravan (and MH) staycations”. You park your van (or MH) on the drive at home and stay as long as
you like (up to 21 days obviously).
Just imagine having your very own 1 pitch CL. You don’t have to have a peg but if you do you can paint it any colour you like. You can arrive as early as you like and if your last day is a Sunday,
you certainly don’t need to leave by 12 – I don’t think even Ian is likely to turn up and want your pitch, is he? ()
You can pitch nose in, nose out, sideways, diagonally, whichever you like and you’ll have your own little grass dividing strip. You can even choose hardstanding (on the drive) or grass (on the lawn) and you can put your awning up wherever you like! Not only
that, if you don’t want to use your onboard facilities you have your own personal toilet block (not used by countless numbers of strange folk) and if it’s left dirty you’ve only got yourself to blame. Any kids or dogs belong to your neighbours so you’re not
likely to have trouble with them. Really the list of advantages goes on and on.
Now I know it won’t be to everybody’s taste. If you’re the sort who likes to get out and about during the day, visiting new places, meeting new people, eating and drinking in new environments, you’d probably
balk at the idea (I know we would!). But for so many on CT it seems to me to be the ideal solution.
